Fuel pump is required for Ford warranty as the duty cycle of the standard pump is too high and renders it outside of it's operating parameters (Bosch would not warrant it, Ford then cannot warrant it..).
The pump has potential to deliver higher flow and pressure.
However, if you uprate the pump on a standard car it should be fine. The pressure is still regulated by the pressure regulator in the rail at the same pressure as before, and the flow rate into the engine is regulated by the injectors.
MT increases the fuel rail pressure as well in order to get around the issue of injector size (increase rail pressure and you can get more fuel in for less injector open time).
But as far I can tell tell Autotech/Superchip don't do this. They are just increasing injector size to get the fuel quantity required injected, and forcing the pump to work harder to keep up.. They are not touching the pressure regulator. Therefore if you fitted an uprated pump you will have the same fueling, just more consistant. No remap should be needed.
I think for people going for big power (400+), the full MT upgrade is unnecessary (unless money is no object, in which case it gives a good base), but the pump if needed.
